A couple weeks ago, Kelley and I hosted several bloggers at our first lakeside blogger’s retreat, and it was nothing short of amazing! We’ve already got the next event planned & open for registration, so take a look at what you missed, then go register for our October retreat!
Our first blogger’s retreat was held at a luxury lakehouse on Lake Lanier in North Georgia. We were surrounded by a canopy of trees and a deck that stretched the entire circumference of the house with views for miles!
Attendees arrived on Friday afternoon and were given time to settle in, pour a glass of wine, and kick their feet up before getting down to business. Friday night “business” was pretty low-key. Each attendee received a blog audit, where Kelley and I shared insights and feedback to help them improve.
We spread these out over the weekend, giving each attendee ample time to ask questions, and for other bloggers in attendance to share their feedback as well.
When asked what their favorite part of the retreat was, one attendee had this to say:
Surprisingly the blog audits. I learned specifics from all three audits. Although I’ve been blogging for 7 years and know some stuff peripherally of what you discussed, it was also nice to know that I know more than what I thought I did. Also helped having someone else take a look at my blog and say hey this could be better. VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THAT ASPECT!
Meals are included in our retreat pricing, so attendees didn’t have to lift a finger or worry about having enough food to eat. We had plenty!
On Saturday, after a delicious breakfast of bagels, cinnamon rolls, and fresh fruit, we dove right into our educational sessions…in our pajamas, of course!
The morning session was all about SEO. Bloggers learned how to determine specific keywords for their blog posts, where to put those keywords, how to effectively use the Yoast SEO plug-in, how to set meta descriptions, and the proper use of heading tags in a post or page.
In the afternoon, after a casual lunch, the bloggers were led through a photography workshop. We showed them how to stage items they might use in blog photos, how to use natural and artificial lighting, and various types of backdrops.
Bloggers were also given in-depth tutorials of Picmonkey and Lightroom for photo editing.
In between work sessions and blog audits, bloggers were given free reign of the house to enjoy at their leisure. Some chose to do extra work on their blogs, while others chose to relax and unwind, enjoying the quiet away from the kids at home!
Since Kelley and I were always on hand, it was a great opportunity for bloggers to ask specific questions and get feedback about their individual blogs, too.
One attendee said:
What sets this retreat apart is the positive energy and the depth of knowledge of Kirsten and Kelley. They answered any question I had with a real world application and gave so many suggestions for improvement. And here’s the best part…the retreat was so much fun! The setting was very casual and I felt comfortable bringing any question to the table. These are some wonderful women who take a personal interest in the success of the bloggers they teach.
Overall, it was an amazing weekend, and we can’t wait to do it again!
Here are a few snapshots from the weekend!
